A Week of Milestones

The Lithia Artisans Market has reached and surpassed two important milestones in our social networking endeavor. Within the last week this blog passed the 1000 mark for post views. In the same period our facebook page went over 100 fans! Thanks fans! For you stats junkies, like myself, we will go over 10,000 post views on facebook before the weekend. Not bad considering we have only been up and rolling for just over two and a half months. We are cruising. We are also experimenting with a Facebook ad to generate more interest in our market.

Fourth of July crowds wander past the market and into the park.

The Fourth of July weekend was quite the spectacle. I was in booth space number one, on the corner, and the river of humans flowing by was at times overwhelming. Did we have great exposure? Yep! Did that equate to lots of sales? Not so much. I would rate the day is slightly above average, but many artisans I talked with said they did not have a great day. What is the message? I can only speculate, but I would say that the Fourth of July is more about hot-dogs, fireworks, red, white and blue hats and clothing, and getting ones’ drink on, than it is about supporting your local artist. Is that a little frustrating? Yep, but it is also a fact that might help folks make more informed decisions in the future. Just trying to be real.

We had happy children getting their faces painted over the Fourth of July weekend at Lithia Artisans Market of Ashland.

Ultimately, I thought the weekend was a lot of fun, especially from the people watching point of view. We humans are a trip; and when we are herded like sheep through a canyon, we are an interesting phenomenon on many levels. Oops, there goes the Sociologist coming through again. Enough…

The Summer heat is upon us. Remember to bring plenty of water for the weekend. I’m seeing highs in the upper 80’s lower 90’s.

I was incorrect in my information about the new outdoor Bowmer Theater opening last weekend. According to news I have been following, the temporary theater, being called “Bowmer in the Park”, will open tomorrow. The flow of play goers should increase our visibility for the time the tent is housing festival patrons. If you haven’t seen Jean Bakewell’s new commemorative rocks, go by and check them out. She has created tiny collectibles to recognize the temporary “Bowmer in the Park”.

I will do another quick post in the next few days to give you the music schedule. When I know who is playing, so will you. Have a productive week!
