Holly Gonella at Lithia Artisans Market. Holly makes totally unique jewelry and pottery. Way cool.

Over 40 artists and artisans are signed up to participate in this coming weekend at Lithia Artisans Market. Let us all take a moment to think sunny thoughts, then full speed ahead into the month of July, historically our busiest month of the season. Renewal, change, evolution, heightened emotions, and the sense that events are spinning at ever more intense rates, has made for quite the roller coaster ride as we make our way through 2012. Through it all our community of artists are staying the course and braving the odd weather to help our organization stay focused on achieving new high points. Reaching out, rather than hunkering down, has produced growth in membership, expansion of the music scene, and an overall sense of vitality and positive change. The market is going through a resurgence and it feels good to be a part of this wonderfully gifted community.

Lithia Artisans Market will be open July 4th, Independence Day, from 10:00 am – 5:00pm in downtown Ashland as part of Ashland’s 4th of July Celebration. The music lineup for the coming weekend and the 4th of July is stellar. Of the four music acts lined up for this weekend, three have never before played our market. That kind of diversity keeps me excited and on my toes. I love to discover new music.
Saturday morning we welcome singer-songwriter Cyd Smith into our midst for the early set from 11:30-1:30, June 30th. She is a superb Jazz guitarist and a great songwriter. It is hard to categorize Cyd’s sound, you just have to experience it for yourself. In the afternoon we are treated to the bluesy sounds of Doug Warner.

Doug Warner sings the blues at Lithia Artisans Market, Saturday, June 30th from 3-5pm.

Sunday morning is a treat as Miss Elly Swift brings her country tunes to our stage for the first time. I saw Elly play at Stillwater (now defunct bar in south Ashland) a few years back and was taken with her voice and songwriting. Really looking forward to her set. In the afternoon our own Melissa Harland brings her band “The Love Atoms” down to Calle Guanajuato to mesmerize with catchy tunes that make me happy. I have been listening to their cd and find the tunes get stuck in my head. I like that. Excited to hear them live.
On July 4th we welcome Aaron Reed for the morning set and the return of Phoenix Sigalove in the afternoon. Aaron has been a long time favorite of mine, and Phoenix blew me away when he played his debut set at Lithia Artisans Market about one month ago. Overall, the stage is set for an amazing long weekend of music, art, and comradery. Hope to see the town in a party mood as summer picks up steam.
