There are so many new fine artists at the Lithia Artisans Market these days. It is encouraging to see young, new artists joining our local weekend market. Melissa Orion is in her freshman year as a market member, but you wouldn’t know it by visiting her booth. Her booth is a festive, textural collage of wonderful, original, archetypal art presented in accessible ways for a discriminating clientele. Melissa created many of these images during her pregnancy with her baby boy Jackson. As part of her shared journey with Jackson she painted nearly every day. From that artistic meditation emerged the images which make up her collection. When I look at Melissa’s art I just have to smile. Her images come from deep within her, yet they are so familiar to all of us. She shows at the market on Saturdays, weather permitting, and you can find her on the web at MelissaOrion.com or her etsy site MelissaOrionDesigns.
This week the market is busting at the seams. We are blessed with 44 artisans showing on Saturday, May 23rd and nearly 40 showing on Sunday, May 24th. Fine art, pottery, jewelry of all kinds, native American style drums, hats by the Hat People, photography, hand painted signs, quilts, handmade soaps, and so much more await the outdoor market enthusiast.
