We are coming off of a whirlwind three day weekend with 4th of July. It is Oregon Country Fair weekend so some of our artisans are out of town participating in the grandfather of all Oregon craft shows. However, we have a strong contingent of quality artisans holding down the fort and making Calle Guanajuato come alive. Jewelry, natural fiber clothing, fine art, wildlife photography, woodwork, adornment, and much more awaits the outdoor market enthusiast. The artisans market, behind the plaza in Ashland, also boasts a great lineup of music for the upcoming weekend.
This weekends featured artisan is Larry Shinerock of Creative Woodwork. Larry is a veteran of the art and craft show circuit. He has been making art from found wood for roughly 40 years. He started as a teenager making wood clocks with his father. His dad passed recently. Harvey, his father, was something of a legend in the world of burl and wood art. “It’s A Burl” is a wood gallery in Kerby, Oregon on the Redwood Highway, between Grants Pass and the Oregon Coast — one of the coolest roadside attractions in all of Oregon. The shop features tree houses, a funky show room full of amazing wood art, and it also happens to be the workshop for Larry, our featured artisan. Larry’s work is beautiful. He has a real talent for bringing out the best in wood. Cribbage boards, bowls, and nifty wood boxes are just a sample of the things you will see in his booth. He is located along Calle Guanajuato, tucked in behind Websters, along Ashland Creek. This weekend everything in his booth is 10% OFF. Stop by and pick out your favorite piece. You won’t be disappointed.
