Lithia Artisans Market is once again full with more than 40 artisans showing throughout the upcoming weekend. Pottery, jewelry, clothing, hand painted signs, painted silk scarves, carved wood bowls, fine art, wildlife photography and so much more are available at the Lithia Artisans Market of Ashland. Open Every Weekend! Saturday 10-6 and Sunday 11-5.
The artist you see smiling right above these words is Dimitri Kalemkeris. He is an illustrator of his very own comic book. His small, intricately detailed, art pieces are whimsical, colorful, playful and sometimes very deep. Each piece represents hours of meticulous work. Dimitri is an emerging artist, rather new to the enterprise of selling his works at the Lithia Artisans Market. His wife, Ali Kalemkeris, has been a regular at the market for over a decade selling her hand made soaps. They now share a booth and Ali is able to stay home with their two young boys while Dimitri sells soaps and art. Dimitri is starting to get noticed in the art world. Last year he was commissioned by musician Jack Johnson to do the artwork for his 2014 Summer Tour Poster. That is really cool! I love Dimitri’s work, and I am honored to own a few of his pieces, proudly displayed throughout my home.
Hands. In honor of the hands with which we artisans create, we present you with a short video we have recently created. I wish to thank Mabrie Ormes, a regular artist showing most weekends at Lithia Artisans Market. She is on the board of directors of the market and was the lead person in coordinating the creation of this short video. The background music was provided by local classical guitar player Rod Petrone. The voice over narration was done by me, Marcus Scott, and the videography was done by Ross Williams at XRats Production. Thanks to everyone who helped in this project. We are really pleased with how this little promotional video came out. Please give it a moment, 30 seconds to be exact, and leave us feedback on Youtube.
It is a great weekend for music. Phoenix Sigalove is back for the first time in quite awhile. Phoenix plays powerful, original tunes that remind us to treat our Mother Earth with kindness and respect. One of my favorite ensembles from out of town is swinging through Ashland this weekend. “Cloud Ship” is a very different kind of musical duo from Fresno, California, and we are pleased to host them at the market this coming Saturday. See the full music schedule below.
