We have 47 artisans signed up to show their wonderful creations this upcoming weekend. The weather forecast looks really nice, a relief from the heat of last week. The plants are lovin’ it and so are the artists of Ashland and beyond. What a blessing to work hard and earn your living with your art-form. You will find all kinds of quality, handcrafted items at our local outdoor marketplace. Jewelry, leather-work, fine art, photography, woodwork, clothing, henna body art, forged copper bowls, and so much more are on display throughout Calle Guanajuato, behind the plaza along Ashland Creek.
Calle Guanajuato is named such because the city of Guanajuato is Ashland’s sister-city in Mexico. I am happy to announce that one of our fellow artists from there is busy painting a giant mural on the wall at the top of our market place. Loreta Rangel Villasenor is shown here in this photo with a scaled mock up of the mural that has just begun on the wall behind her. The process has been cruising right along, and they are on track to complete the project by July 4th. That is the plan. The mural is called “Streets of Guanajuato” and it depicts many iconic Guanjuato images. “Callejoncitos”, or small alleyways, are typical throughout Guanajuato and a big part of the city’s charm. Thank you Loreta for bringing this wall to life!
Come on down to Calle Guanajuato and support your local, and international, artisan community. Our own “callejoncito” in downtown Ashland, Oregon. A magical little alleyway where Lithia Park intertwines with the downtown scene.
