Lithia Artisans Market of Ashland (LAMA) opens for its 29th season on April 14 and 15, 2012 — Saturday 10:00- 6:00 and Sunday 11:00-5:00. Southern Oregon’s oldest art and craft market opens the same weekend that the Ashland Independent Film Festival (AIFF) ushers in its 11th season, April 12 – 16.
2012 is a year of change and creativity. The Ashland area is bursting at the seams with creative energy. In the first meeting of our jury committee we welcomed eight new artists into our midst — gold and silver jewelry, hip clothing designers, art that borders the realms of psychedelia, and much more. I am totally stoked that so many excellent artisans are excited to join our family and help the Lithia Artisans Market blossom into the world class event that it is destined to be. I can feel the positive flow of energy racing through our community, challenging every one of us to listen to that inner voice that tells you to reach for the loftiest goals. Can you feel it? Now is the time to go with that flow and excel. This is our time to thrive. Believe it, and it is so.
Lots of great things are brewing as the Lithia Artisans Market eases into 2012. Nothing but original music on Calle Guanajuato. Not only are we summoning the best artisans of our region, but also the finest musicians — all in support of the downtown Ashland art scene. Music and art come together and create magic along Ashland creek. A stroll down Calle Guanajuato is far more interesting when the market is in full swing as it will be April 14th and 15th, and every weekend throughout the 2012 Oregon Shakespearean Festival season.
I am excited about the opening weekend lineup of music. Our good friend Boris Cummings returns to the stage with Steve Elmer in a new ensemble called “Pleasant People”. Boris and Steve are always conjuring something new. I look forward to their set Saturday, April 14 from 3:00 – 5:00.
I am equally stoked to announce that we will have a special guest on Sunday, April 15th. Drew Rouse will be bringing his acoustic soul music to Ashland, and playing an exclusive two hour set at the Lithia Artisans Market. Drew has toured extensively throughout North America, captivating audiences with his original tunes whose themes include social and environmental justice, peace, harmony, life and love. Drew is a maverick troubadour and we are lucky to grab him as he passes through on his way to Eugene and beyond. His set is Sunday, April 15 from 3:00 – 5:00, and is a must see event if you are anywhere near Ashland. Really a treat.
