Lama WalkAbout Ad 2015 low resThe Spring Equinox, March 21st seems like a most auspicious day to open the 2015 season at the Lithia Artisans Market of Ashland (LAMA). The market is opening six weeks earlier than we did in 2014. Super cool! Love the feel of the rain today, yet hopeful the rain will miss us for opening weekend. The forecast is… well, think sunny thoughts. Four different forecasts predicting four different possibilities. It is spring in southern Oregon, a great time to stroll along Ashland Creek, on Calle Guanajuato enjoying the longest running, open-air art and craft market in the region. For 32 years the Lithia Artisans Market of Ashland has been the place to purchase authentic, locally crafted pottery, jewelry, clothing, metal work, wood work and much more,  directly from the maker.

The guild of artisans who make up the Lithia Artisans Market of Ashland (LAMA) is nearly 100 members strong. Products sold at LAMA must be made by the folks who sell them. The talent within the membership is outstanding as each artisan must jury their products before a group of their peers in order to become part of the guild. As the market manager I am honored to help make this market a success for each of its varied members. I am grateful for the market and the opportunity it provides the community. We are blessed to do what we do as artisans, following our passion. We are grateful to the folks who come out to peruse the wares, listen to live music, and purchase items direct from artists. Thank you!

There is so much talent in the Rogue Valley. At the market we showcase live, original, acoustic music each weekend. This upcoming, opening weekend we welcome the Brothers Reed to the stage on Saturday, March 21st from 12-2pm. Aaron Reed has been part of the music scene in Ashland for nearly a decade. His brother Phil moved out to Ashland a couple of years ago. They both play in the punkified, country band called “Bucklerash”. When they play as a duo they play totally acoustic and blend poetic verse with beautiful harmonies. Really great song-writing. The Brothers Reed has recently cut a new cd, due out on April 11th. They are throwing at CD release party at the Imperial Center in Medford, click now to check it out!

Sunday we get a taste of the blues from Doug Warner. I have often heard the comparison made between Doug and another blues man, Eric Clapton. He puts on a hell of a set of music for one guy, his guitar and a mic. Love it! He plays the Sunday slot, March 22 from 12 – 2pm.

Enjoy the rain and think sunny thoughts for the upcoming weekend, the first day of spring, the first day of the Lithia Artisans Market of Ashland 2015!!!
