Jamine Patten, Clothing Designer, Dervish, Lithia Artisans Market, Ashland, Oregon

Jamine Patten is a clothing designer and owner of Dervish Clothing. Showing her wares at the Lithia Artisans Market, Ashland, Oregon.

Another full market this weekend at the Lithia Artisans Market. 35 artisans are signed up to show this first weekend in October. The days grow shorter, nights longer. The air is crisp in the morning, the waning sunlight still brings warmth, but with less intensity. Fall is upon us.

It is perfect weather this weekend to visit the Lithia Artisans Market. Fall is a great time to try on a hat from the Hat People, or a hoody from Sunny Lindley at Sundial Arts, or check out the up-cycled sweaters and hand warmers from our friend Jasmine Patten of Dervish Clothing. Jasmine is featured in this weeks photo with her always fashionable line of fall clothing.  She is a very creative soul. We welcome her back to the market for the first time in many months.

Boulder Opal Pendant by Marcus Scott of The Stone Bead. Always at the Lithia Artisans Market.

You will also find all kinds of handcrafted jewelry this weekend at the market… sterling silver set gemstones, lamp-worked glass beads, riveted metals, meticulous wire-work, and carved stone beads. Fine art, wildlife photography, leather work, woodwork, body care products, handmade soap, and so much more will also be on display.

It is a “black moon” tonight, the last day of September, the second new moon of the month. They say this is a time of deep insight, high levels of creative thought, and new beginnings.  A time of opportunity.

As winter approaches, as we bring in the harvest, as we work with our hands, the creative images in our mind come through our hands. Being a conduit for intuitive creativity helps us to manifest new products, new designs, new patterns. This is the divine interaction the artisan finds in the daily ritual of work. New ideas are bubbling to the surface. I love this time of year.

Going inward is an important part of the creative cycle. Just as a seed needs to be buried in the dark, moist earth in order to take root and sprout forth into the new season. The artist needs that time of introspection. Taking stock of where our art-form is, where we want it to go, and acquiring the skill sets, tools, knowledge, and raw material to make it better, cleaner, more intriguing. A never ending process.
