Deb VanPoolen is a fine artist who shows regularly at the Lithia Artisans Market of Ashland (LAMA).

It is Gay Pride Weekend here in southern Oregon, and the Lithia Artisans Market is out in force. 35 artisans are signed up to participate this weekend at our local artisans market along Ashland Creek. It looks like it’s going to be a beautiful weekend to hang out in downtown Ashland. The Pride Parade is particularly colorful and always a lot of fun. At the Lithia Artisans Market we honor diversity in all its forms. Join us on Calle Guanajuato before, during, or after the parade.

NEW FALL HOURS:   SAT. 10-5 ~  SUN. 11-5

We are counting down the weekends until the end of the outdoor season. Just three weekends left. We officially end our outdoor season on Sunday, October 29, weather permitting. After that we move our market indoors for Christmas Faire at the Historic Ashland Armory, Thanksgiving Weekend, and then on to Holiday Market at the Briscoe ArtWing every weekend leading up to Christmas in December. Stay tuned for more information on both of those shows.

This weekend you will discover all kinds of wonderful, handcrafted items made by the artisans of our region. Jewelry, clothing, fine art, photography, woodwork, leather work, body care products, pottery, candles, hats, and so much more will be neatly arranged in art booths all along the alleyway behind the plaza known as Guanajuato Way (Calle Guanajuato). Art, craft, live music, and creek-side dining available all weekend.

Featured in the image above is fine artist Deb VanPoolen. Deb was a member of the artisans market way back in 1995, but has spent a large part of her adult life working as a political activist and wandering all over the globe in support of equality, human justice, and environmental protection. Her art has evolved over the years. Her mentor was renowned local artist Harriet Rex Smith who recently passed from this earth at age 96. Deb is inspired by nature. Her butterfly piece is famous around town and depicts the rare and endangered butterflies found in the Cascade-Siskiyou bio-region. The original painting is huge, but she has smaller prints and posters of the image available for sale. The original piece is being auctioned off on ebay to help KS Wild and their efforts to protect natural habitat. Bidding on the piece ends October 14 at 8:30pm. Click this link to bid on this unique art piece, ebay.com/butterfly-art. We are super happy she has rejoined the market this season after a 22 year hiatus.

Doug Warner, a blues man, provides us with live music at the  Lithia Artisans Market of Ashland (LAMA).
