Only two more weekends left in the 2013 outdoor market season. The leaves are falling, Lithia Park is ablaze with color… reds, oranges, yellows abound. The Indian Summer that is upon us this Fall is a gift. Thankful for this season, this time of community, and the strength of our artisans family. Again we gather along Ashland Creek. 26 artisans are signed up to participate. We are pleased to welcome a new artisan into our midst. Jennifer Jensen is a new resident of Ashland making her way here from Hawaii. She is excited to be part of our market and share her creations. Please stop by and say hello, make her feel like part of the family. Some artisans who have not shown as much this season will be at the market this weekend. We are happy to welcome back Dave Summers of Elf Mountain Leather and Jasmine Patten of Dervish Clothing. Art and craft abound. Jewelry, hats, clothing, fine art, leather work, body care products, pottery, photography and much more await the outdoor market enthusiast.
Music looks great this weekend. We are also welcoming a new musician into our midst. Michael Olsen is a flamenco guitarist who lives in Mt. Shasta. He will be playing Saturday morning from 11:30-1:30. Complete music schedule below.
Work continued throughout the week on the preliminary stages of the repaving of Calle Guanajuato. They are opening up 22 different holes measuring 5 by 7 feet in dimension. This excavation is to determine whether the site is of archeological significance. Remember, before the establishment of the township we know as Ashland, both the Shasta and Takelma Indian Tribes had a presence here. It is believed that the exact area of our current plaza might have been a seasonal village for some of the Shasta tribe. It will be interesting to know what artifacts might be hidden under the concrete street. I heard through the rumor mill that a human tooth was discovered in the very first hole dug. If significant remains and/or artifacts are discovered that could delay the project. I will keep you all posted as news comes my way.
Come on out this glorious weekend and support local art, craft, and music.
