October is upon us at the Lithia Artisans Market of Ashland, and our Indian Summer continues. The weather forecast is for highs in the mid 80’s this coming weekend, leaves are turning, tomatoes ripe on the vine, and 32 exceptional artisans are showing at the oldest art and craft market in southern Oregon. Crocheted items like mittens and scarves, clothing, fine art, photography, woodwork, handmade soaps, and all kinds of jewelry await the outdoor market patron. Only four more weeks in the outdoor season at the Lithia Artisans Market, then we go indoors for our 14th Annual Christmas Fair at the Historic Ashland Armory on Thanksgiving Weekend, followed by three weekends of Holiday Market at the Briscoe ArtWing. For now there is no better place to be than along Ashland Creek, behind the plaza at the Lithia Artisans Market of Ashland… where art abounds.
This weeks featured artisan is Leah Fairbanks of Gardens of Glass. Leah and her husband Derek are veterans of the art and craft show circuit, particularly the bead shows. They have lived here in Ashland for a long time, but this is the first year they decided to apply to the artisans market. Doing the local market, instead of so many shows, frees up more quality time for family. We at the market are so happy that they have joined our local artisan family. Leah creates intricate glass beads and pendants. Her work is truly world class. She began her career in glass by attending the prestigious Pilchuck School of Glass in 1982. In 1992 she took her first class in lampwork glass bead making. Inspired by nature, Leah has translated her love of flora and fauna into delicate glass creations. She aptly named her business Gardens of Glass. Her pieces are amazing. You owe it to yourself to check out her art, especially this weekend as everything in her booth is 10% OFF in honor of her being the artisan of the week.
Danny Sherrill is a great songwriter, and talented musician. He and his partner Jacqui play this Saturday, October 4th from 11-1 at Lithia Artisans Market of Ashland.
