Amy Godard of Folkworks is a print artist who makes graphic and colorful works using woodcut, linocut, and screen printing. Amy has been making art in her downtown Ashland studio for 10 years. You will often find her booth set up at the back door to her studio above the Calle.
Amy gets physical with her works by carving into wood and linoleum, which is then loaded with ink and pressed directly onto paper or fabric. She also does silkscreening, a process where the ink is loaded on top and pulled through a screen, and that involves creating an original design and then transferring it. All of her works are printed on archival paper, and the t-shirts she makes are certified fair-trade and organic.
Amy, now in her 8th year of selling with the Lithia Artisans Market, says she comes back every year because of the amazing community of artisans and artists. She loves selling at the market because it gives her an opportunity to connect with an audience. “Art-making can be such an inward process that it creates a nice balance when I can interact with buyers. It brings me joy to hear stories about their lives and find out what inspires them. ”
Find Amy and other fine artists and craftspeople at our outdoor Market this weekend along the creek, in Lithia Park, and in the city planning lot.
What Amy has been working on
“Lately my print rack has been full of woodcut prints. Springtime is a great time to print because there is plenty of moisture in the air so my paper and ink don’t dry out too fast. It gets harder to pull a good print during the dry heat of a Southern Oregon summer. I have finished printing several new editions, including some that I will be featuring this weekend!”
