Rose Gerstner of Sympatico Clothing took some time away from our market during the pandemic, and we are thrilled to welcome her back this weekend! Rose makes a line of women’s hemp clothing that is a perfect fit in our handcrafted market. She uses natural fibers, believes in sustainable slow fashion, and loves figuring out how to use her stash of natural fabrics that are just waiting for the perfect project.
This season Rose has added a new and creative item to her work in the form of dyed scarves using the Japanese shibori technique. Rose ties knots and compresses fabric remnants from her clothing line to create patterns that resist the dye. This process results in beautiful and varied designs when the fabric is unfurled. Rose says, “I love the moment of removing the stitches and ties to discover how the pattern and color turned out. My online customers have enjoyed accessorizing their Sympatico separates with these colorful scarves. And I’ve discovered a whole new way to explore color and shape in my work with textiles!”
