…is the home of the Lithia Artisans Market. You walk down the steps from the Angus Bowmer Theater, headed toward the plaza or Lithia Park, and the Lithia Artisans outdoor marketplace can be seen in the distance following the meandering alleyway of Calle Guanajuato, along Ashland Creek. As many as 40 artists and artisans can be found each weekend from mid-April ’til mid-November.
This Spring has been a wet one, one of the wettest on record for the Ashland area. When I was in need of a photo of one of our newest market members, artist Mabrie Ormes, it was hard to find a moment last weekend when the rain wasn’t falling. When Mabrie and I sat down at Art and Soul Gallery, where she shows her fine art pieces, the rain poured outside the windows. For two hours Mabrie told her story while I recorded her words and keep the questions coming. Mabrie has an intriguing story and I encourage everyone to read it online at Locals Guide (follow this link). Thanks Mabrie, it was a lot of fun.

I have been writing tons this last week about MidSummer’s Dream Festival and I encourage all reading to go to the MidSummer’s Dream facebook page and ‘like’ the event. Also, notice that I have created a link to Lithia Artisans Market facebook page on this blog (see the right hand column). Please go to our facebook page and ‘like’ the market.
I have been working on many projects with my friend and art advocate Jim Young. Most of us know Jim as one of the owners of “Hat People”. I know Jim as a visionary for change. We have been working together tirelessly for the last few weeks promoting the upcoming MidSummer’s Dream Festival, but also working on the big picture questions about the future of the market. Be assured that good ideas in in the works. Just look at the concentration on his face in the attached photo. That is the face of determination.
