Ashland’s oldest open air marketplace, the Lithia Artisans Market of Ashland (LAMA), is jam packed with amazing creations from the hands of 44 local artists who will be showing this upcoming weekend at the market. The back alleyway know as Calle Guanajuato comes to life with silk screened t-shirts, pottery, woodwork, jewelry of all kinds, metal sculpture, fine art, photography, clothing and so much more. We welcome back to the market our successful artisans who participated in the granddaddy of all west coast art fairs last weekend, The Oregon Country Fair (OCF). Returning to Calle Guanajuato are Holly Gonnella Jewelry, Alissa Clark Clay-works, Dave Summers Leather-work, and Luciene with her summer dresses and skirts. These four are regulars at Oregon Country Fair.  They are also locals artisans who show at the market throughout the rest of the season. It takes outstanding quality to become a vendor at OCF, and these vendors meet that mark of excellence. Welcome Home!

Last Sunday we washed Calle Guanajuato clean of debris with torrential rains and electricity surging though thunder heads reaching into the heavens above. Massive down pours turned roof-top storms drains into waterfalls. As an artisan whose livelihood depends on outdoor marketing, Sunday afternoon was as exciting as it comes, while bleak and miserable at the same moment. They call those moments, “payin’ yer dues.” Awesome moments for sure! The air is cleaner and more energized. The rain from recent storms has water drenched parched landscapes. Southern Oregon feels alive, and the market is rocking along with more creativity than I’ve witnessed in my previous 20 plus years of membership. Come by and support the local art scene… alive and well in the heart of downtown Ashland at the Lithia Artisans Market.
