We are open for business on Calle Guanajuato. 29 artisans are signed up to participate this upcoming weekend at Ashland’s outdoor marketplace, the Lithia Artisans Market.  The Lithia Artisans Market features creations made by the hands of folks who live right here in southern Oregon. This weekend you will find pottery, carved wooden spoons, burl bowls, hand sewn leather shoes, fine art, photography, clothing, hand cut stones pendants, delicate silver wire work, and hand wrought metal jewelry. A wonderful collection of treasures await the outdoor market enthusiast. Saturdays 10-6 and Sundays 11-5 along Ashland Creek behind the downtown plaza shops.

A double rainbow graced the valley yesterday and seemed to land right on my workshop where I hand-carve stone beads. I love that. Creativity and beauty seem to come shining through in the midst of unsettled weather, unsettled politics, unsettled visions. April has been an unsettled month; however, there are gifts to be had in the midst of such give and take. At these times it is vital to lean into your foundation, your strengths, and settle into the a groove which is important. Personally, what is important are my relationships with  fellow human beings, my family and friends, my craft, my home and garden, and our marketplace in downtown Ashland which is my place of business. These are tangible things that need our attention and make a huge difference for us and those around us. The artisan way becomes the collective way as we re-learn that working with our hands is crucial in our changing world. It is part of what makes us creative, inspired humans. It keeps us healthy and strong. Ideas and visions that seemed so far away become second nature after decades of practice. “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” That old Taoist saying by Lao Tzu is as true for the journey of the artisan as it is for any journey of personal importance. Making your art requires you take the first step. Journey forward.

We have some great musical guests joining us this weekend playing all original tunes (see the music schedule below). Today a purple rain showers our valley as we honor the passing of a maverick, a pop icon, and a wonderfully creative musical artist who touched so many with his passion for sound. Prince passed away yesterday. God bless.

It is raining today and the plants in my garden are loving it. With that said, let’s think sunny thoughts for the upcoming weekend. Plants and outdoor market like sunny days on the weekends. See y’all out and about.
