The Lithia Artisans Market will be celebrating its 30th year Anniversary along Ashland Creek on Calle Guanajuato when we open for our first weekend of 2013 on April 6th and 7th. In conjunction with the Ashland Independent Film Festival, we will be open two weeks earlier than previous years. Hopefully this warm Spring will continue to bless us with sunshine. Ashland Independent Film Festival patrons should make it a point of spending time in between the many excellent films to stroll the Lithia Artisans Market and pick up that special item to remind you of your wonderful weekend in Ashland.
Gratitude is the word that resonates strongest for me as we open our 2013 season. Thirty wonderful years along the creek in lower Lithia Park. It was the year I graduated from Ashland High School, 1983. A small group of artisans determined to turn the run down alley way into a marketplace of which the city of Ashland could be proud. Multiple trips to the city dump alleviated the alley way of debris that had build up over the decades. Blackberry brambles were removed and slowly but surely the alley way became a resource to the community rather than an eyesore. Thanks to the tenacity of Ruth-Ann Almquist, permits were acquired and the market opened late in the summer of 1983. I am so grateful to those who came before us and made our marketplace possible. Today the market is small, but quaint, and one of the hidden gems in downtown Ashland.
Come out for the opening weekend and enjoy live music and the best art and craft Southern Oregon has to offer.
